Mr. Richard Cherchio moved to Ward 4 of North Las Vegas with his wife Gloria in 2001 after serving as President of his union local in the U.S.Postal Service for 25 years until his retirement in 1998. Richard is originally from Brooklyn New York. During his tenure as President he was a trained facilitator, arbitrated cases, negotiated local contracts, and instructed at yearly NALC Seminars.
Soon after moving to North Las Vegas he formed The Alliance of Homeowner Associations and Concerned Citizens and has been successful in expanding the alliance involving many other communities. He successfully petitioned the Public Utilities Commission to allow communities to transition from environmentally wasteful natural gas burning street lamps (SW Gas) to a more cost effective friendly lighting in solar or 12 volt. Richard's public service all involves active ongoing membership in many valley Democratic clubs and caucuses, including the CCDP and NV State Central Council Democratic Party. In 2008 he requested a Charter to form the North Valley Democratic Club and currently serves as its chairman. He is a member of the N.W. Police Command Community Council, graduate and active member of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni North (CPAAN), Community Watch Coordinator, serves on NLV Code Enforcements citizens focus group, and is a member of Nevada Energy's DSM Sub-Committee / Home Weatherization program for North Las Vegas working in partnership with Housing and Neighborhood Services.
